Sycamore Creek Church Eastwood Campus
We hit different*
*keep the best of faith and leave the rest
*LGBTQIA-affirming
*Jesus and justice
*working for racial equity
*platforming artists and entrepreneurs
*multi-culturally curious, creative, compassionate

A lot of people haven’t given up on God or Jesus, but are about to give up or already have given up on the church because of its silence about racism and its exclusion of LGBTQIA people.

Sycamore Creek is an asset to the community by platforming artists, entrepreneurs, and all people who are multi-culturally curious, creative and compassionate.  We keep the best of faith and leave the rest.  We love Jesus AND justice.

So if you’re looking for a faith community that is CURIOUS, where you don’t have to check your questions or your brain at the door; is CREATIVE, you can experiment and try new things “playing jazz” on traditions; and is COMPASSIONATE, including everyone (Black, brown, male, female, LGBTQIA, etc.); then Sycamore Creek’s Eastwood Campus is the church for you to check out.

Sycamore Creek has remodeled an old church building (with the red tin roof) across from Eastwood Towne Center to be a church, a performing arts center called Stage One for local community theater groups and artists of all kinds, an incubator kitchen for food startups, and a community garden to grow fresh produce for local food banks.

Tom Arthur

Tom Arthur

Pastor Tom (he/him) is the second pastor following Sycamore Creek's founding pastor, Barb Flory. He came to Sycamore Creek in 2009 right out of Duke Divinity School (yes he is a "Blue Devil" pastor). Since then he has led the church to start a Church in a Diner, Church in a Pub, and two adoptions of other churches. In 2022 he led the adoption of Asbury UMC and the launching of our third campus at Eastwood. Tom's first call before being called to be a pastor was to racial and economic justice. He met his future wife, Sarah, while they were both volunteering in the projects on the south side of Chicago. They have two boys, Micah and Sam, and he enjoys canoe camping, sailing, skiing, mentoring his boys into adulthood, and dating his wife of 25+ years.

Ally Watson

Ally Watson

Ally (She/Her) is our office assistant keeping all the administrative processes running smoothly behind the scenes. She is a wife and mother of two girls and one boy. When she’s not working at SCC, she owns a business with her sister, and enjoys spending time there and with her kiddos. She is passionate about providing safe spaces for people of color and other groups who are marginalized, and empowering them from spaces that they don't usually see empowerment.

Sari Brown

AnnaMaria Horn

Sari Brown (she/her) is our interim worship coordinator. Sari is a recording singer songwriter, priestess of song, healer of connections, facilitator of sacred space, and the hostess of The Healing Feast. She likes to bring music you wouldn't usually consider "worship" music into the weekly worship service. She's also been known to rewrite lyrics, make up her own new verses, and write entirely original songs for the theme of the day or series. Sari is also an ordained United Methodist pastor.
Monica

Monica Cena

Monica Cena

Monica (she/her) is our professional nursery assistant. She has three children of her own and has run a children's daycare out of her home. She is currently in cosmetology school hoping to open her own salon someday. Monica loves spending time with our littlest ones and has an endless supply of patience and joy for the children in the nursery.

Never before in Lansing has a 100-150 seat affordable stage been made available to community theater groups and artists of all kinds. Stage One is the result of a partnership between Sycamore Creek Church’s Eastwood campus and community theater groups: Peppermint Creek Theater Company, Ixion Ensemble, The Good Neighbor Concert Series, Quality Scary, The Capital City Film Festival, and Happendance. The kitchen in Stage One is an incubator kitchen for food business startups.
